Leveraging regular spending to maximize your rewards.?

A trap that people can get caught up in with rewards cards is that they think they need to buy more so they can be rewarded more. Obviously, this mind set will only get you into trouble. Although it might seem humorous, the fact is that many people do actually try to spend more because they think they are saving more. Actually, such a strategy is why credit cards allow rewards in the first place.

Credit cards give rewards to users because they charge companies a fee, usually 2-3%, for using the credit card. Companies agree to this because, as statistics and research show, people are likely to spend 50% more on average when they have a credit card. Credit cards offer rewards to users, usually 1% cash back, and then fuel even higher spending amounts.

Basically, it is all a game the credit card company is playing. As the credit card user, you have to be able to be responsible so they can use the credit card to their advantage. Essentially, it is you versus the credit card company. If you use the credit card responsibly, you can come out on top and reap the benefits.

That is where leveraging regular spending comes into play in order to maximize rewards. If you use the credit card for regular spending, such as getting gas or buying groceries, you can receive the maximum benefits. It is recommended that you use your credit card not to buy extra things but rather to buy the essentials, to buy the things that you'd buy otherwise and that you have the money for. By doing this, you can afford to pay you're credit card in full every month, reach a higher credit score (and receive the benefits of that!), and be rewarded with the maximum amounts of rewards possible from the credit card company.

You see, it essentially all comes down to you using the credit card correctly. If you do, then you will be able to come out extremely pleased with the rewards you will receive by doing so and, in this case, using the credit card is actually preferred to cash.
